Available now without pressure: how klik sees availability
By the klik team · · 3 min read
Available now without pressure: that is the idea behind the Now feature in klik. You say, on purpose and for a limited time, that you are open to meeting someone, with an end time and a stop button. Being online alone does not mean someone wants to meet up.
klik is not available yet (Coming soon). This is how the feature is designed.
What does being available with Now mean?
Now is a deliberate choice. You switch it on when you feel like a spontaneous meeting, and you decide for how long. After that it ends by itself, or you switch it off sooner.
That is different from simply being online. Someone who opens the app may just want a chat, a profile to read or a bit of distraction. Only when someone switches on Now is there a clear signal.
Why is being online not the same as wanting to meet?
A green dot mostly tells you that someone has their phone in their hand. Reading that as an invitation puts pressure on the other person.
So in klik you will not see "last seen" or anything like it as a sign of availability. Only people who deliberately turn on Now let others know it is possible. Everyone else carries on discovering, chatting or waiting, without expectations.
How do the end time and stop button work?
With Now you choose an end time. That way everyone knows it is a limited moment, and nobody feels obliged to be reachable all the time.
The stop button is always within reach. You can end Now at any moment, without explaining. When the time is up, it stops by itself and you have to switch it on again if you want to. There is no artificial rush.
What do others see of my location?
Discovering people in klik shows only rough proximity. You see roughly who is nearby, not exactly where someone is. Exact or live location is not a standard part of your profile and is never part of notifications.
If you do want to share a place later, that is a separate, voluntary choice inside a chat. You pick a meeting place, a one-off pin or live location for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. You can see who receives it and when it stops, and you can always stop. So permission for Now is not permission to share your exact location.
What if I am at a festival or event?
An event or festival is a context, not an obligation. It can be a reason to switch on Now, but it does not have to be. You decide whether and when you are available, even if you are already there.
A festival mode does not quietly change the intention you chose. If you are looking for friends, that stays the same. If you are looking for a date, so does that.
Tips for keeping your boundaries clear
- Pick a short end time if you are still unsure. You can always extend it.
- Say in your first message what you do and do not want, for example "just a coffee".
- Choose a public place for a first meeting and tell someone where you are.
- Only share your location if you want to, and only for as long as needed.
- Do not feel obliged to reply. Saying no is always fine.
- Report or block someone who ignores your boundary.
