What is a match? The difference between a suggestion and a match

By the klik team · · 3 min read

What is a match? In klik, the answer is short: a match only happens when you both show interest. A suggestion is therefore not a match yet. It is an invitation to see whether something fits.

That is how klik is designed to work. The app is not available yet (Coming soon), but the thinking behind it is settled: both of you decide, and nobody is rushed.

What is the difference between a suggestion and a match?

A suggestion is a person klik shows you, with a concrete reason: a shared interest, a value you both mention, or a few words in their own voice from their profile. You look at the profile and decide for yourself whether to show interest.

A match follows only when the other person does the same. Until then, there is no match. That way you never feel seen or turned down for something that does not exist yet.

  • Suggestion: a pointer, and your choice whether to show interest.
  • Match: both of you have shown interest.

Why does mutual interest matter so much?

Contact works best when both sides want it. Because a match only appears when interest is mutual, every conversation starts on equal footing. Nobody has to guess whether the other person is keen.

This fits the starting point of klik: everyone keeps the same control over interest, visibility and boundaries. Whether you are looking under Daten (dating) or Vrienden (friends), the rule is the same.

What happens after a match?

After a match you can chat. That is an option, not an obligation. You do not have to reply straight away, and there is no clock chasing you.

A conversation can start gently and move at your pace. If you no longer want it, you can end the contact or block the other person. That also stops any access tied to that match. Unblocking does not bring an old match back.

A first message does not need to be clever. A question about something you noticed in the profile is often enough.

Why no popularity rankings or compatibility percentages?

klik does not show a ranking of popular people, and it does not give a percentage saying how well two people fit. A number like that suggests a certainty nobody can give. No one can predict whether two people will have chemistry.

You also do not need figures about who is most in demand to get to know someone. They mostly set people against each other instead of bringing them together. In klik, what matters is what you share and what you would like to ask each other.

What is the klik check?

The klik check is optional. It compares three answers that you both give. The result is a conversation starter, such as a shared choice or a fun difference to talk about.

The klik check says nothing about whether you will be happy together. It simply makes a first message easier. You can also skip it and begin with a question of your own.

Tips for handling suggestions

  • Read the profile calmly. A suggestion does not need an instant answer.
  • Only show interest when you are genuinely curious.
  • Remember that no reply from the other person is not a verdict on you.
  • Use the klik check as a starting point, not a test.
  • Say plainly what you need, even if that changes.

What does this mean for you?

A match in klik is a beginning, not a promise. You have both said yes to getting to know each other, and what happens next is up to the two of you.
